Our Scholarships

The Karen DeLisle Memorial Scholarship Foundation was formed to distribute scholarships to qualifying New Jersey students who are pursuing a college degree. At the age of 40, Karen made the decision to leave nursing and to pursue a lifelong ambition to make her mark as a writer. Shortly thereafter, she began her second career as a reporter and columnist for the Hunterdon County Democrat and the Delaware Valley News. After Karen lost her battle with cancer in September 2004, the Foundation was created in her memory as a tribute to her love of writing and the value she placed on secondary education. The Foundation awards scholarships of varying amounts typically $2,000 to $5,000 to eligible applicants

Sigh-of-Relief

The Sigh-of-Relief Scholarship is awarded to need-based college students experiencing financial difficulties resulting from a cancer related illness, or death of an immediate family member. Applicants must be degree seeking college or trade school students from New Jersey. Multiple Sigh-of-Relief scholarships are available and are determined quarterly.

Journalism

A Journalism Scholarship is available each year for college-bound Hunterdon County High School seniors who exhibit journalistic talent and goal-orientation reminiscent of the Foundation’s namesake. This is a merit-based scholarship. To qualify for consideration candidates must submit a human interest story suitable for publication in a general circulation newspaper or comparable news outlet.
